![]() ![]() ![]() The phillips bdp 2100 will just crank and whirl to try to load but will not load. it is so so flimsy it looks like it will break anytime) i remember is it the low end model.but it works well (except the poor designed eject button. Let me bring the LIFE discs back there to try again just to confirmĪnd i will let you folks know the sony model number. My other bdp is at my main house in the city It is possible to rip (but only with commercial software like AnyDVD HD) and re-burn BluRays to make the region free, but I am still at a complete loss to explain why this Sony player can play the discs if that (region or zone problems) is really the problem here. If something was licensed for region A, for example, then every region A country could play it. If I had to guess, I'd guess that the BluRay is checking the DVD region somehow and refusing to play if the DVD region doesn't match the one where the BluRay was licensed as Criterion is only allowed to produce BluRays for the USA and Canada. Similarly we've had reports from anime fans that Japanese zone A BluRays they've bought refuse to play on US players. We've had reports of some zone A BluRays made by Criterion in the USA that won't play on zone A players in other parts of the world. In the past year or so it's become apparent that BluRay allows for type of region or zone coding that goes beyond the usual A, B or C. Is there anything special about the Sony that you aren't telling us, like it was bought in Europe or you bought it from a re-seller who made it region free for DVD and BD playback?įinally, I don't think this is the case but I'll mention it just in case. What exactly is happening with the Philips when you play them? What region are the BluRay discs coded for? The box will say A, B or C or all 3. ![]() Sometimes the player gives an error message that may or may not be helpful. Some BluRays show a special screen that explains that the disc wasn't coded for the region the player is in. Typically when a user encounters a zone problem, the disc or the player will give an error message. If it is a region or zone problem, why can the Sony play them when Sony players are as notorious as they come for NOT being able to be made region free? I would have expected the exact opposite. OP says the discs work fine in his Sony but not his Philips. ![]() I admit to just being completely baffled by this. ![]()
